Ocean and beach as far as the eye can see, fifteen miles to be exact. These beaches are so secluded that maintenance is something that doesn't occur very often and water or food is not readily available in most cases. Therefore, you will want to be sure that you have plenty of water and food before setting out.
This beach is probably most popular as a surfing spot. Not many swimmers come here because of intense waves and rip tides.
Salt Pond Park
Salt Pond Park in Hanapepe is the most popular swimming destination. Complete with lifeguards, showers, and clean bathrooms, this place is the spot for vacationing families.
Here, you can experience the true depths of the ocean. Catch a few waves while surfing, catch a few rays while sunbathing, snorkel to your hearts content, or dive to see the wonders of the ocean.
Barking Sand Beach
If Hawaiian legends and history is something that interests you, you will definitely love this visit. The name of Barking Sand Beach comes from a legend in which nine dogs apparently found themselves buried in the sand while trying to help their owner find his home during a terrible storm.
Legend says that when Barking Sand Beach is dry, you will hear the sound of the dogs barking, hoping that someday their owner will be able to finally find the dogs. Other than the legend, this is a great swimming spot, though it is sometimes extremely windy.
